20 Years of Paroxysm Press – Guest Performers

Here’s some of the action from the ‘20 Years of Paroxysm Press‘ gig held at the Broadcast Bar, 11th August, 2018.

Brilliant spoken word from Alison Bennett, Nico and Kami and a little history behind Paroxysm from a drunken publisher, Daniel Watson. Vid made by Ian Gibbins.

Paroxysm Press simply refuses to die; we will not back down, we will not go away. Every year we get bigger, every year we expand our audience and (most importantly) our much valued, much loved cult following. Like-minded writers from around the world now gather here with us to fight for the power of words. Bigger name authors stand by our side even when the rewards are less than they can receive elsewhere because they too believe in the hard, tough, true to life material we publish. They see Paroxysm fight against a world it can never beat – but they stay anyway – because they can see the fire in our eyes.

Caroline Reid at Spoke N Slurred

Sunday, 30th September, 2018
5:30 – 9:00 pm

Brick City Bar
73 Grenfell Street, Adelaide

Caroline Reid grew up in Kalgoorlie, WA. Highlights include managing to avoid falling down disused mine shafts, being taught how to play guitar by Kevin Bloody Wilson and writing a poem for a competition in the local rag, The Kalgoorlie Miner. The poem wasn’t published but gave her a taste for poetry over songs with a fuck-ton of swearing in them. When she’s not writing, she wanders the streets of Cowandilla in the shade of her pink and green umbrella, and looks forward to suffering hearing loss as a result of living in the flight path. https://carolinereidwrites.blogspot.com/

Caroline recently was runner up in the SA Poetry Slam and will be representing SA at the Australian Poetry Slam at the Sydney Opera House!!

Caleb Pattinson at Spoke N Slurred

Sunday, 26th August
5:30 – 9:30pm

Brick City Bar
73 Grenfell St, Adelaide

Not since J.J. Abrams rebooted the Star Wars universe has society seen such a creative wordsmith. This has been consistently proven through Caleb’s tinder profile and ability to get a swipe right. Somehow he scraped his way into the Rumble final, where he promptly forgot half his poem.

If you are looking for a night of enjoyment with incredible creativity and talented poetry – maybe give this one a miss. You will get poems about love, politics and mental health though, they just won’t be very good.

Don’t take our word though:

“Of all the poetry I’ve heard this is definitely some of it” – Nadia Patterson

“Of course I still love you my dear” – Caleb’s mum

“Stop asking me to review your poems” – Caleb’s ex housemate

Nadia Patterson at Spoke N Slurred

Nadia Patterson is young, new and has been absolutely killing it on open mics and in slams. Despite my obvious jealousy ridden rage at this state of affairs I figure she has more than earned her own feature spot.
